Position Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at the Diabetes Center has duties and responsibilities related to patient care in the ambulatory clinic environment. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions as a member of the healthcare team. The CMA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician when performing clinical tasks during patient care. The CMA reports to the clinic manager, who is responsible for administrative supervision, staff development, and orientation of the CMA to the area's policies and procedures. The CMA maintains an inventory of examination/procedure room supplies, assists in the organization of efficient patient flow, and organizes the clinic environment to assure patient safety. The Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) working in this practice environment works in a dual capacity, meaning that they are hired to and move between both clinical and administrative roles in the clinic. The Diabetes Center provides comprehensive services to adult patients (>18) with a diagnosis of diabetes, dysglycemia and related conditions. In addition to provider visits for patient evaluation and management, the clinic offers extensive patient education, including group education classes; assistance with diagnostic continuous glucose meter devices, downloading clinical information from various diabetes management devices.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program required

Licensure/Certification:

  • Completion of CMA certification with the credentials of RMA, NCMA, NRCMA, CCMA or CMAA required prior to hire
  • Valid BLS CPR certification required upon hire; JHH accepts AHA, Red Cross, and military training network

Work Experience:

  • Ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of CMA experience
