GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides administrative and operational support duties for the Emergency Department. This position in collaboration and under the direction of the department Nurse Manager and/or designated charge nurse/Team Lead coordinates and ensures operational efficiency by planning for the availability of supplies and equipment, anticipating departmental needs. Provides technical expertise to the other Emergency Department Technicians and nursing staff necessary to ensure the safe and effective provision of emergency care. The Administrative Support Coordinator acts as a departmental resource for the Emergency Department and serves as a primary preceptor for other staff orienting to the Technician role in the Emergency Department. Works to assist the Emergency Department leadership with the gathering of statistics related to Quality Assurance/Improvement, Regulatory, and EMS-related activities and operations. Works with outside vendors to implement new processes to eliminate waste, reduce cost, and increase efficiency.

In collaboration with the Emergency Manager/Hospital Safety Officer, oversees, monitors, and evaluates emergency preparedness and response efforts. Maintains competency of hospital bed capacity and care capabilities to ensure situational awareness with DC Health and Medical Coalition for the purposes of information and resource sharing. Actively participates with DC Health and Medical Coalition sub-committees in organization and exercise planning, coalition surge testing, cross-jurisdictional communications, and EMS resource management. Coordinates emergency preparedness training, including HAZMAT and DECON courses for SMH personnel. Conducts full-scale training exercises twice yearly to ensure maximal SMH response capability and capacity to meet the medical needs of any incident as well as Hazard Vulnerability Analyses to identify likely hazards that may occur. Manages emergency response equipment and supplies through inventory control and maintenance of emergency facilities/capabilities, including maintenance of DECON showers. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  1. Associate Degree; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  2. Advanced Life Support Provider Certification (National Registry Paramedic or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician) required
  3. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers – AHA Certification
  4. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider – AHA Certification
  5. Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider – AHA Certification
  6. ICS 100; ICS 200; ICS 700 Course Completion
