Job Duties: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Nocturnist is an independent, professional health care provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to acutely ill general medicine inpatients and emergency department observation patients. The APP is also responsible for performing procedures for the general medicine service, screening observation patients, TPN consults for the hospital, rotates through nights and weekend nights, and attends at least one divisional meeting a month. The advanced status is renewable annually after satisfactory evaluations ensuring that the above conditions are being met. Please consult APP Written Agreement for specific skills and knowledge.
Full Time (40 hours)
Rotating 12 hours shifts
Education:Work requires the in-depth knowledge of medical theories, principles, and concepts acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in a Physician Assistant Program.
Licensure: Current state licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is required, along with CDS (prescription) and DEA (narcotics) licensure, and current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS/CPR) certification. (License, CDS, DEA & CPR required for staff level position. Certification by NCCPA is not required for either.)
Experience: At least one year of related experience at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Candidates who have more than one year of related experience outside Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, can achieve advanced status after satisfactorily completing a 3 month probationary period at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, based on full-time employment. Candidate must have the ability to work independently in managing the clinical, consult, and procedural services. Also requires the ability to place Laryngeal Mask Airways (“LMAs”), and perform all other clinical duties or procedures as specified by the division, the acuity of the patient or the requirements of the medical service. APP’s are responsible for, and be able to perform up to the standard patient volume caps set by the division.
