The Assistant Director of Nursing- Surgery assists the Director of Nursing in the organization, development and operation of the nursing department within a functional unit. As designated by the Director of Nursing, assumes responsibility for clinical operations, programs, various nurses in leadership or advanced practice roles, and/or professional support staff. The Assistant Director of Nursing participates in functional unit, department of nursing and hospital programs and/or committees. In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing assumes responsibility for nursing service within the functional unit.

A. Education Master’s degree from an accredited school of nursing. B. Knowledge Knowledge of nursing process; social, behavioral, biological and physical sciences; EBP and nursing research and application; leadership and management as normally acquired through master(s) program in nursing. Knowledge of current health care environment. General computer knowledge and capability to use computers. Knowledge of the science of patient safety and quality improvement processes. Knowledge of Service Excellence Principles and Behaviors. C. Skills; Project/Program Management Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership and collaboration within an interdisciplinary setting. Ability to analyze data and synthesize information for the purpose of problem solving and decision-making. D. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc. Registered nurse licensure in the state of Maryland. E. Work Experience Five years of clinical nursing experience with at least two years experience in nursing management.
