Position Summary:

The Priority Partners Managed Care Organization (“PPMCO”) Chief Medical Officer (“CMO”) is a key member of the PPMCO Executive team responsible for the overall clinical vision of PPMCO, a leading Medicaid managed care organization in Maryland. In this capacity and under direction of the PPMCO Board, the PPMCO CMO participates in defining the overall business strategy and direction of PPMCO. The PPMCO CMO provides medical oversight, expertise and leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality, patient-centered, accessible and cost-effective healthcare services to PPMCO members. Highly effective communication skills are required, as is effective problem-solving and the ability to successfully drive execution of complex, cross-functional clinical initiatives to reduce medical expense trend and improve quality. The PPMCO CMO must have a results-driven mindset and be passionate about driving performance improvement in Medicaid managed care programs.

The PPMCO CMO reports to the PPMCO Chief Executive Officer and the PPMCO Board, with a dotted-line collaborative relationship with the Johns Hopkins HealthCare (“JHHC”) CMO. The PPMCO CMO is also responsible for contributing to the strategic vision and attendant policies and procedures within JHHC to enable coordination of medical management and quality improvement activities in support of the PPMCO strategic plan.

Education

Requires a Medical Degree from an accredited Medical School. MBA, MPH or similar desirable.

Knowledge

Knowledge of managed care concepts and care management activities. Working knowledge of clinical informatics.

Skills

Experienced in coordinating with physicians in both the community and academic medical

centers.

Required Licensure, Certification, Etc

Unrestricted license as M.D. If licensed outside of Maryland, must be willing to apply for a Maryland M.D. license and receive one within four months of employment. Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine required. Certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in his/her respective specialty.

Work Experience

Minimum 5 years’ experience in managed healthcare systems (preferably Medicaid), medical quality assurance, quality improvement and risk management. A minimum of 3 years professional post-residency experience in direct patient care. A minimum of 3 additional years’ experience in a medical direction leadership role with experience in strategic planning. Experience and demonstrated successful leadership of case management, disease management and/or population health programs. Demonstrated ability to assess business needs, design and implement clinical programs and evaluate results.
