We improve health and enhance wellness; educate interdisciplinary health care professionals to provide culturally competent, evidence-based care; inform the public on transgender health issues; and advance medical knowledge by conducting biomedical research. We are seeking Clinical Social Workers to grow our Healthcare Team to help our patients live fully and authentically.
The Clinical Social Worker for Transgender Health provides direct psychological, social and gender affirming care to transgender patients. The Social Worker assesses and coordinates pre-, peri-, and post-operative social and clinical support needs and assists patients in preparing their local plan of care. The social worker reviews mental health surgical readiness referral letters for sufficiency in accordance with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) standards of care and the Johns Hopkins guidance and liaisons with patients and outside mental health providers as necessary. This position is an essential team member in assessing patient status, transgender-related health care goals, and connection to services within the JHM enterprise or with outside providers based on patient needs.
Full Time, Day Shift, (40hours per week)
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Weekends are not routine but may be required based on operational needs
The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Carnegie 136
- Master of Social Work, Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work.
- Experience with Transgender or LGBTQ healthcare strongly desired
- Must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners at the LCSW or LCSW-C level.
- 1 year of experience in providing clinical social work service, preferably, in a mental health/health care setting (internship may apply).
- Experience in Medical Social Work strongly preferred
