Position Summary:

Identifies stories and assists with written materials for JHM electronic, print, web, video and media outlets. Stories include but are not limited to research news; feature stories about institutional initiatives and programs; and faculty profiles. Develops and maintains relationships with faculty, staff and members of the local and national media to provide media relations services to advance public awareness of Johns Hopkins Medicine's mission and achievements. Assists in planning, developing collateral material for, and implementing media relations events including but not limited to press conferences, symposia and town halls. Supports the media analytics program to track and measure media placements and impact.

Education:

This position requires a bachelor's degree and equivalent work experience in public relations, communications, journalism or directly equivalent bachelor's degree

Department Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
Background in communications and public relations, specifically newsletter writing, design and production, Web/Intranet content creation, electronic message creation and management, social media and project management. Excellent organizational, problem solving, customer service and verbal/written communication skills required.

Proficiency in Microsoft office products, desktop software applications and web-based software programs and Web-tracking tools (Site Executive, Google Analytics and others preferred). Must be skilled in electronic communications to include, but not limited to social media, tracking electronic vehicles and trends, SEO and electronic newsletter management. Knowledge of desktop design software including InDesign and Photoshop helpful. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals at all levels both inside and outside of the organization. Demonstrated ability to work in a variety of communications media. Demonstrated ability to adhere to timelines and deadlines. Must be able to work as part of a team to accomplish goals, have sound judgment and discretion and commitment to service excellence. Ability to measure and analyze data and use knowledge to improve communication strategies and plans.

Experience:

3 years of related experience required

Department Preferred Experience:
Minimum of three years’ experience in the field of communications, social media or public relations is required. Health care experience is preferred. Requires demonstrated experience working successfully on deadline and designing and implementing communications plans and strategies. Demonstrated experience in implementing effective and external and internal communications plans and strategies and in editing/writing high-quality publications is desired.
