Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Training, QA, Analytics & PI, the Core Service Trainer will provide end-user medical insurance training. This position supports the needs of the JHHS and JHUSOM front end registration and scheduling personnel and clinical Patient Service Coordinators (PSC’s). Other support related to service excellence and telephone based customer service training may be required. Training is continuous and repetitive as needed to adapt to changing insurance requirements. Duties include providing interactive, hands-on training to new and experienced staff and providing training support to department patient access unit managers. Training involves detailed teaching on the multiple insurance payers with an emphasis on accurate selection and documentation of insurance codes in addition to identifying benefits, referral and authorization requirements. The Trainer is responsible for development and ongoing maintenance of all insurance selection and customer service training materials. The Trainer will meet regularly with the Director and the Training, QA, Analytics & PI team to review progress of staff training, trends in registration completeness and accuracy and customer satisfaction and to evaluate the effectiveness of all related training approaches and materials.

Competencies:

A. Education:

  • Bachelor’ degree in education or related field preferred. Directly related experience may substitute for degree (2 years’ experience = 1 year education)

B. Knowledge:

  • Work requires knowledge of curriculum development for adult learners and demonstrated proficiency in adult education and electronic/computerized training processes.
  • Duties require the ability to work in a rapidly changing environment while considering new and untested approaches.
  • Working knowledge of Epic, GE IDX and Meditech is preferred.

C. Skills:

  • Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills to develop training manuals, workflows, “tips,” updates and present materials in a classroom or one-on-one setting. (Must submit writing sample at time of initial interview).
  • Must demonstrate excellent presentation skills. (Short instructional presentation required as part of interview process).
  • Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to conduct formal training sessions and to interact effectively with client managers.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft products.
  • Must be able to evaluate programs for impact and effectiveness, and to identify problem areas and make recommendations for improvement.

D. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.:

Appropriate certifications to facilitate selected training programs and assessment instruments are preferred.

E. Work Experience:

Requires 3 years of related work experience at a hospital, academic medical center, or medical insurance company.

Working knowledge of medical insurance, payer contracts and participating agreements is required.

Demonstrated experience training adults in small and large group settings using multiple media formats.
