Our pediatric anesthesiologists are experienced in treating infants and children of all ages and support surgeons throughout Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. The department provides care and sedation to patients in Johns Hopkins All Children's operating rooms, Special Procedures Unit and MRI/CT services. They also care for MRI patients at our Outpatient Care location in Tampa.
Our anesthesiology team comes from esteemed institutions around the country, each handling more than 1,200 cases every year. Many of the program's fellowship-trained and board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists have advanced training in areas such as pain management and congenital heart disease. The team also includes full-time pediatric nurse anesthetists with CRNA certification.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Certified Nurse Anesthetist provides patient centered, specialized, evidence based nursing care across the continuum through an inter-professional approach to treatment, research, education and advocacy. CRNA's are board-certified providers that assume responsibility and accountability for anesthesia and pain care services for pediatric patients at all acuity levels, in a variety of settings for procedures including, but not limited to, surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and pain management. Contributes to the goals of the department by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Florida Board of Nursing and JHACH policy.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1.Evaluate the health condition of patients in providing safe, comprehensive clinical care
2.Perform and document a thorough pre-anesthesia assessment and evaluation
3.Obtain and document informed consent for the planned anesthetic intervention from the patient or legal guardian, or verify that informed consent has been obtained and documented by a qualified professional
4.Formulate a patient-specific plan for anesthesia care
5.Monitor, evaluate, and document the patient's physiologic condition as appropriate for the type of anesthesia and specific patient needs
6.Document pertinent anesthesia-related information on the patient's medical record in an accurate, complete, legible, and timely manner
7.Evaluate the patient's status and determine when it is safe to transfer the responsibility of care; accurately report the patient's condition, including all essential information, and transfer the responsibility of care to another qualified healthcare provider in a manner that assures continuity of care and patient safety
8.Advance the knowledge of the interprofessional team through leading training and development programs to improve pediatric healthcare delivery and patient outcomes
9.Constant consideration of developmental level of child and family when translating health information to support positive health outcomes
10.Demonstrate understanding of internal and external CRNA practice rules, regulations and legislation to maintain compliance and certification
11.Serve as an advocate for the needs of the children and their families across the health care continuum ensuring the best patient/family experience and advancing pediatric health throughout the community we serve
12.Integrate ethical principles in decision making

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Clinical Master's or Doctoral Degree in Nurse Anesthesia
•Current Florida State Licensure as CRNA
•Current BLS and PALS
•Current National Certification as Nurse Anesthetist
