ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Architecture & Planning, the Director is responsible for overseeing and managing master planning and design services related to capital projects and regulatory compliance programs at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Howard County General Hospital, Suburban Hospital, Sibley Hospital, and various satellite ambulatory locations (owned and leased) that require periodic support – the JHHS affiliates. The Director makes decisions and recommendations for their designated location(s), which have direct impact in achieving the Health System’s project goals and established objectives. The Director negotiates critical and controversial issues with JHHS clients, consultants, top-level project team members, and other project support team members on a regular basis. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and

guiding major capital projects, programs, and strategic initiatives to achieve JHHS project and organizational objectives. The Director will oversee a team of Medical Planners and Planner/Designers to ensure that planning, design and finishes are executed to align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements for a multitude of complex projects (large and small). Project types include building infrastructure, equipment replacement, inpatient care, ambulatory developments, pediatric acute care, labs and other innovative clinical spaces.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or equivalent progressive experience in the design/management of major capital projects, and a minimum of eighteen (18) years’ progressive experience in the design/managementof large, highly complex healthcare/academic medical center projects.

  • Experience requirements may be flexible if a candidate holds a master’s degree and/or certifications or licenses such as a Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC), LEED AP, Registered Architect (RA), Professional Engineer (P.E.), or other relevant professional certification or license.
