Position Summary:

The Health Information Management (HIM) Technical Project Manager, under the leadership of the Senior Director, Health Information Management, is responsible for the management of all HIM projects involving the evaluation, procurement, and implementation of new systems, the management and maintenance of existing systems, and organizational projects that represent operational changes for the HIM Department. This position requires knowledge and experience of HIM operational workflows in a complex, multi-facility, academic environment. The HIM Technical Project Manager will review all release notes for system upgrades, consider the impact to HIM and Coding Operations, and provide education and training regarding the changes to HIM leaders and staff. This position will collaborate with system trainers to ensure training programs meet the needs of HIM Coding and Operations. The HIM Technical Project Manager will coordinate all testing for system implementations and upgrades.

The HIM Technical Project Manager will consider all HIM stakeholders when evaluating system upgrades, and new systems, and proactively communicate risks, benefits, and concerns, and recommend potential resolutions. This position will serve as the System Administrator for HIM-centric applications. The Technical Project Manager will demonstrate strong customer service and collaboration skills, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects. This position will be responsible for coordinating system access for new and existing employees. The Technical Project Manager will support the HIM Department leaders with report design and development.

Competencies:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management required.

Knowledge:

Proficient in information system technology and project management. Must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices, compliance, and policies related to HIM Operations. Prior experience in an Academic HIM Department is preferred.

Skills:

Effectively manage multiple projects of varying sizes, beginning with evaluation phase, and following through to final completion.

Prioritizes work and timelines based on the needs of the HIM Department.

Develop, maintain, and monitor comprehensive project plans, and meet established project timelines.

Analyze and communicate the impact of new systems, upgrades, enhancements, and conversions, to Coding and HIM Operations workflows.

Develop effective test plans prior to a new implementations, upgrades, enhancements and conversions.

Represent HIM interests and serve as point of contact between HIM and other hospital departments with regard to system selection, upgrades, enhancements, and maintenance.

Proficient knowledge of HIM operations.

Effectively communicate release note changes to HIM leaders and staff in advance of implementations, upgrades, and conversions

Assists Senior Director, HIM with department budget and operates within budget

Ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels of the organization

Assists with the management of vendor relationships and related contracts

Creates a collaborative and respectful team environment, improving workflows across departments, and within HIM Operations

Required Licensure Certification, etc.

RHIT or RHIA credential preferred.

Work Experience:

Minimum of two years of related experience required.

Previous experience supporting health information systems in a hospital setting, and leading, or

participating in system upgrades.

Prior experience interpreting system release notes associated with upgrades.

Experience with test scenarios associated with system implementations and upgrades.

Previous Project Management experience required.

Machines, Tools, Equipment:

Experience with electronic medical records, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project Management software

required.

Experience with Epic, On Base, and 3M 360 R2, 3M HDM preferred.
