Position Summary:

Under direction of a Registered Nurse performs duties in the operating room to assist the surgical team in surgical services such as scrubbing on all types of operative procedures, obtaining and preparing instruments and equipment and maintaining a clean and safe surgical environment. The ASC Surgical Tehnician will flex to the Central Sterile Processing Unit and other areas of the ASC when needed to support the daily operations of the ASC.

A. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of Surgical Technician program or successfully completed an Accelerated Alternative Delivery Surgical Technology (AAD-ST) certificate program. B. Knowledge Familiar with verbal and non-verbal communication styles.
In depth knowledge of aseptic technique principles.
Familiar with effective teaching methods for skill training.
In depth knowledge of surgical procedures in three or more specialties.
How to plan and organize a project.
How to trouble shoot for equipment and instrument problems.
In depth knowledge of standard precautions.
In depth knowledge of instrument care and handling principles.
Surgical anatomy and physiology.
Team concepts and dynamics. C. Skills Ability to function as a member of the operating room team under stressful situations.
Perform proficiently in scrub role for routine and specialty procedures.
Proficient handling of equipment and instruments.
High level of organization and planning for surgical procedures.
High level of flexibility to adapt to changes in procedures.
High level of flexibility to adapt to changes in delegated duties.
Ability to teach skills in intraoperative setting.
Monitors the actions immediately surronding the sterile field ensuring that the integrity is maintained and or corrected appropriately.
Demonstrates safe handeling of sharps, specimens, and other procedure specific supplies and equipment.
Verifies all implants, supplies, and equipment are available and functional
Listens actively to the patient, surgeon, anesthesiologist, and other membersof the surgical team to ensure safe patient centered care.
Possesses knowledge and skills required to effectively provide care for patients in all age groups. D. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc. Surgical Technician certification preferred.
CPR E. Work Experience Minimum of three years prior experience as a Surgical Technician preferred. One year required.
