POSITION SUMMARY: The Operating Room Nurse Manager: Provides leadership to achieve unit, departmental, and institutional objectives within a rapidly changing environment. Acts as a clinical resource to unit staff Applies advanced knowledge of nursing and management to manage systems of patient care, personnel development, fiscal and unit operations, performance improvement, and program development. Participates in the development and achievement of Operating Room unit goals Promotes innovation and excellence in clinical, service, and team performance. COMPETENCIES: A. Education: Bachelors of Science degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing required. Masters of Science degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing preferred. Applicants without the required degree may be considered, per Nursing guidelines CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification preferred. B. Knowledge Advanced knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and research. Knowledge of social, behavioral, leadership, business, and managerial theories and concepts. Knowledge of AORN guidelines Knowledge of the contemporary health care environment, including environment, including clinical, economic, and policy trends. C. Skills Possesses knowledge and skills required to effectively provide care for patients in all age groups. Analyze and interpret complex data sets and reports (e.g. variance analysis, financial, quality population specific reports) to improve patient, financial, and quality care outcomes. Utilize verbal, non-verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships. negotiate resolution of issues that are consistent with unit, departmental, and organizational objectives. Problem-solve and appropriately confront issues. Create a climate that fosters compassionate care, innovation, cooperation, collaboration, and teamwork. Use automated systems to access, transmit, and produce information. (e.g. e-mail, spreadsheet, Inter/intranet). Achieve results by effectively working through subordinates and others. Plan, organize, prioritize, and manage work. Adapt to rapidly changing priorities and environment. D. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc. Registered nurse licensure in the State of Maryland.
PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support or ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support E. Work Experience Five years of experience as registered nurse, including 3-5 years with leadership and/or management responsibilities preferred.
