Taking into consideration the age and developmental needs of the patient, performs routine patient activities and nurse delegated patient care procedures of a specialized and technical nature during entire transport process. Identifies changes in patient data and notifies nurse, during in-house transports. Sets up and maintains specialized transport clinical equipment. The Paramedic Transport Technician provides input into the care of the acute patient, anticipates and assists in stabilization, and maintenance of current therapeutic modalities. Functions under the rules, regulations and protocols of Maryland's Emergency Medical Services System as a Paramedic, during out-of-hospital patient transport by ambulance, medical campus emergency responses, and during medical standby events. Individuals who need to obtain their Maryland certification and pass the patient clinical technician test during the probationary period will be placed in an Intern position until these criteria are met(not to exceed 90 days from hire).

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion a Paramedic program. Additional experience in service related healthcare occupation demonstrating proficiency in interacting with customers, handling high-level tasks, meeting deadlines and providing excellent customer service preferred.

Knowledge: Knowledge of setting up and management of specialized patient care equipment utilized during transport process. Knowledge of recording and reporting pertinent clinical data.

Demonstrates working knowledge of radio, telephone, and wireless communications methods. Ability to comprehend dispatch assignements and use of medical terminology.

Advanced knowledge of critical care medicine and treatment modalities.

Skills: Demonstrates ability to analyze data to synthesize and summarize information.

Must be able to switch and effectively function in clinical roles inside and outside of the hospital.

Ability to document legibly using writing instrument, and ability to use electronic documentation systems.

Analytical skills required to resolve problems.

Must have substantial interpersonal skills necessary to interface with transport personnel, physicians and hospital staff. Must be able to handle fast paced team environment and ptotential high stress situation.

Work Experience:Required minimum of two years of EMS or hospital experience within last three years. Preferred minimum of one year as a full-time advanced life support (ALS) provider.

Required Licensure, Certification: National Registry and State of Maryland Paramedic, current advanced & basic cardiac life support (ACLS & CPR). Maryland Certified Nursing Assistant certification or obtain within 90 days, pass basic Patient Clinical Techncian test before 90 day probationary period, or pass basic Patient Clinical Techncian test at time of hire. Within first year of employment, obtains and maintains: PALS, NRP, Trauma Life Support. Unrestricted Valid Driver's License and maintain contracted ambulance vendor's emergency vehicle operator requirements.
