Position Summary:

This position will work strategically within the Marketing & Communications Department to supervise all Web Services development and publishing efforts to ensure a fresh, advanced, and competitive Web presence at the highest level. Ensures the successful and timely delivery of a range of internal Web consulting/administrative services with priority given to customer service. Oversees implementation of the HopkinsMedicine.org content management system (CMS) and development of new templates. Leads training activities of the CMS, as well as Web accessibility/usability standards. Coordinates inflow of all Web team projects, related budgets and sourcing resources; develops process with supervisor for prioritizing all Web projects
Project manages select budgetary commitments, Web developers, content managers, Web administrators and temporary personnel. Develops and communicates Web site usage and security policies and standards for all users; works with information technology services, legal and related partners to register Web servers and sites with domain name services; ensures security of Web sites and related applications; performs periodic Web site audits; monitors and reports on Web site traffic and related activity. Supports effort in setting organizational Web development strategy in coordination with supervisor. Provides guidance and contributes to Web site(s) architecture and overall site structure within the context of the Content Management System; manages Web development Projects, resources and teams (including intranets and extranets); conducts research into current and emerging Web technologies and issues in support of Web development efforts.

Advises on/manages technical issues and contributes to the development and maintenance of the overall information architecture of the JHM site(s). In conjunction with other institutional technology leaders, helps establish Johns Hopkins Web standards, guidelines, and policies as they relate to the Web.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters Degree preferred

Knowledge:

Proven, relevant experience in cross-functional development with a broad range of Web technologies.

Working knowledge of Web server technology and the ability to make appropriate hardware and software recommendations.

Strong knowledge of Web strategies, technologies, protocols, and tools.

Strong knowledge and understanding of various Internet programming languages, analytics and trends.

Knowledge and understanding of application development methodologies.

Working knowledge of structuring, developing and implementing interactive Web sites.

Knowledge of database development.

Knowledge of data privacy practices and laws.

Web accessibility expertise with the ability to provide guidance to other Web professionals.

Working knowledge of multimedia design, including Adobe and Macromedia Suites

Skills:

Proven team leadership and responsibility with regard to technical projects and initiatives in a complex organization

Demonstrated experience and competency areas should include the following: HTML, CSS, XML, CMS, database applications, JavaScript, graphic design, CMS and security (intranet, authentication, and authorization).

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Strong customer and interpersonal/human relations service skills.

Ability to conduct research into emerging Internet technologies and programming languages.

Ability to research, organize and present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.

Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Must have developed and implemented a successful corporate or health system and/or higher education Web strategies.

The successful candidate will be able to navigate, negotiate and accommodate the needs of a diverse community. Must be able to communicate effectively to a non-technical audience.

8+ Years in a Web environment, developing Web sites and working with various clientele and related vendors.
