The Medical Assistant works under the clinical direction of the Physician and the Medical Assistant Supervisor located in the Columbia, MD office of Signature OB GYN. This position is an integral member of the interdisciplinary health care team in providing the highest quality of care to the patient. Assists in scheduling activities and with monitoring compliance with department policies and procedures.

Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, infection control, diagnostic testing and specimen collection procedures required. Three years’ experience in a medical practice setting is preferred.

Must have effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Effective time management and organizational skills. Ability to learn and use a computer based patient appointment scheduling and registration system in addition to an electronic medical record system.

High School degree or GED equivalent required. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Training Program or five or more years of specific applicable primary medical care MA experience may be substituted for formal training.

Successful completion of the medical assistant certification exam (CMA, RMA, NCMA or NRCMA) required at hire or within 3 months of hire. MA certification must be maintained according to the certifying agency’s recertification schedule for the duration of employment. Valid CPR certification required upon hire. Recertification required every two years.
