Position Summary:

Under the clinical direction of the physician, the medical assistant in the ambulatory practice functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary health care team in providing the highest quality of care to the patient. Assists in scheduling activities of medical assistants and with monitoring compliance with department policies and procedures.


Medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, infection control, diagnostic testing
and specimen collection procedures.


High School degree or GED equivalent required. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Training Program or five or more years of specific applicable primary medical care MA experience may be substituted for formal training.

Work Experience:

Three years experience in a medical practice setting is preferred.


Day, Full-time (40 hours)

8:30 am-5:00 pm

Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.Effective time management and organizational skills. Ability to learn and use a computer based patient appointment scheduling and registration system in addition to an electronic medical record system.

Required Licensure, Certification:

Successful completion of the medical assistant certification exam (CMA, RMA, NCMA or NRCMA) required at hire or within 3 months of hire. MA certification must be maintained according to the certifying agency’s recertification schedule for the duration of employment. Valid CPR certification required upon hire. Recertification required every two years.

Working Conditions:

Works in a typical ambulatory care environment where there are limited physical discomforts due to temperature, dust, noise, lighting, etc. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials and pharmacological agents with little likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed. Work requires ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time. Requires ability to move and transport patients with assistance. Overtime and use of staff sharing at other work locations may be required.
