Position Summary:

Reports to MRI Manager or Chief Imaging Technologist/Immediate Supervisor. Performs Diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging of organs, organ systems and blood flow studies. Provides radiologists with images necessary to obtain diagnostic results so that a comprehensive diagnostic report is available to referring physician. Orients physicians, residents, staff and student techno¬logist in objectives and applications of magnetic resonance imaging and safety. Assists nursing staff in area e.g. witnesses nursing staff in wasting medication and documents in Pyxis.

Knowledge:

Requires extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathologic processes with emphasis on neurologic, orthopedic, and cardiac physiology. Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology as related to the position, as well as aseptic and sterile techniques. Requires knowledge of the physics involved to perform magnetic resonance imaging exams, as well as the use of all equipment necessary to obtain and document a complete examination. Effective communication skills to interact with patients, physicians and other personnel.

Education:

Requires completion of an AMA approved program in Radiolog¬ic Technology or equivalent, which normally is acquired in a two-year college or technical school program. Prefer one year experience in an imaging modality.

Work Experience:

Prefer magnetic resonance training program experience with clinical internship or one year of clinical imaging experience.

Shift:

Rotating Shift, Full time (40 hours per week)

5:30 am -10:30 pm

Saturday’s 2-1030 pm

Sundays and two days during the week 11-730 or another assigned shift time.

Skills:

High levels of analytical skills are required to perform appropriate scans based on the patients’ history and protocol. Work requires a high level of interpersonal skills for instructing and orientating patients, physicians, medical staff, and students.

Required Licensure, Certification:

ARRT certified with current registration required. CPR certification required within three months of employment. Advanced ARRT MRI certification required within one year of employment.

Working Conditions:

Required to work in all ACR MRI zones and exposed to strong magnetic field for extended periods.

Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, radiation, magnetic field, and pharmacological agents with likelihood of harm if established health precautions are not followed. Work may require the use of lab coats, uniforms and/or protective clothing including gowns, gloves, masks and eye gear. Position requires the ability to assist the patient on and off the examination table and also to assist the patient into proper positioning to obtain diagnostic results. The position will require moving and lifting of supplies and equipment as needed.
