Position Summary:

At Johns Hopkins Radiology, MRI technologists not only ensure the proper positioning and scanning of patients, they have the opportunity to work on committees around quality improvement, learn new software, test new equipment, and participate in research studies beyond the daily clinical care. Our on-the-ground leadership team recognize the importance of support and clear communication with all members of the staff across the wide range of scanners and equipment on the Johns Hopkins campus. As part of Johns Hopkins wide array of MRI scanners, technologists will find that it provides a uniquely flexible environment with the chance to change shifts, primary locations, and experience new patient demographics while maintaining existing benefits within the Johns Hopkins Health Care system.

The MRI tech reports to the JH Imaging Site Manager and MRI Lead Technologist. Performs diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging of organs, organ systems and blood flow studies, including transfers, positions, and instructs patients as needed regarding the procedure. Monitors data acquisition. Provides radiologists with images necessary to obtain diagnostic results so that a comprehensive diagnostic report is available to referring physician.


Requires completion of an AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology or equivalent, which normally is acquired in a two-year college or technical school program. Prefer one year experience in an imaging modality.

Work Experience:

Prefer magnetic resonance training program experience with clinical internship or one year of clinical imaging experience.


ARRT certified with current registration required. CPR certification required within three months of employment. Advanced ARRT MRI certification required within one year of employment.


  • Requires extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathologic processes with emphasis on neurologic, orthopedic, and cardiac physiology. Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology as related to the position, as well as aseptic and sterile techniques. Requires knowledge of the physics involved to perform magnetic resonance imaging exams, as well as the use of all equipment necessary to obtain and document a complete examination. Effective communication skills to interact with patients, physicians and other personnel.
  • High levels of analytical skills are required to perform appropriate scans based on the patients’ history and protocol. Work requires a high level of interpersonal skills for instructing and orientating patients, physicians medical staff, and students
