All new graduate nurses are automatically enrolled in the yearlong Adult or Pediatric Nurse Residency Program (NRP) to facilitate the successful transition to professional nursing practice.

The Progressive Cardiac Care Unit is a 32-bed unit, including 12 intermediate (ICU step-down) and 20 telemetry beds. The unit has a collaborative multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nutritionists, pharmacists, and social workers. The team cares for adult medical patients with a variety of cardiac diagnoses - coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, dysrhythmias, and heart failure most commonly. You will gain experience caring for patients requiring Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD), as well as post-interventional cardiology procedurural patients transferring from the Cardiac Cath & Electrophysiology Lab.


Candidate qualifications for the Registered Nurse 1 position on the Progressive Cardiac Care Unit :

  1. Associate Degree candidates* from an accredited nursing program will be considered; provided they are either currently, or will be enrolled in an accredited RN to BSN program.
  2. Bachelor’s or Master's Degree from an accredited nursing program preferred.
  3. Maintain active RN licensure in the state of Maryland
  4. No RN work experience required

*Per JHH Nursing Policy: If you do not currently possess a BSN or MSN degree, by accepting this offer of employment, you certify your understanding of the following: (a) you must provide proof of BSN or MSN degree program acceptance to your hiring manager within your first year of hire; (B) you must complete the BSN or MSN degree program no later than five years from program enrollment; and (c) you must make steady progress toward completing the program by taking a minimum of nine credits within 12 months of initial enrollment and each year thereafter.

The Registered Nurse 1 on the Progressive Cardiac Care Unit is responsible for:

-Coordinating care for assigned patients to promote the achievement of clinical outcomes.

-Providing evidence-based patient care based on the JHH nursing process, policy, procedures.

-Participating and promoting departmental and hospital safety standards.

-Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships with a multidisciplinary health care team

-Ability to analyze data and make judgments regarding optimal patient care.

-Practicing responsible cost-effective use of resources.
