GENERAL SUMMARY: The Radiation Oncology Family Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team and is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive care to both adult and pediatric patients in the outpatient setting. Intervenes in acute and/or chronic illness and coordinates care between inpatient and outpatient oncology services at Sibley Memorial Hospital, the Johns Hopkins Health System, and Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC). Works with hospitalists, medical oncologists, nursing leadership, the Radiation Oncology Director, and CNMC providers serving as the clinical resource for acute issues from the Kimmel Radiation Oncology clinic. Monitors quality of oncology care across the inpatient-outpatient continuum. Obtains appropriate histories, performs physical examinations, orders diagnostic testing as well as develops care and treatment plans. Other activities are in support of patient/family education, staff education, unit activities, and psychosocial care of patients and families.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  1. Licensed to practice as Nurse Practitioner in Family Health in the District of Columbia.
  2. Master’s degree in Nursing from an AANP or ANCC accredited school.
  3. Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as Nurse Practitioner, preferably in oncology.
  4. Currently certified as a Nurse Practitioner by national credentialing institution and commitment to maintain certification as required.
  5. Prescribes medications including oral, parenteral, intramuscular, or subcutaneous drugs.
  6. Prescribes controlled medications within the District of Columbia’s advanced practice nurse scope of practice and per Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) guidelines.
  7. AOCNP certified or commitment to obtain within 1 year of hire.
  8. Current CPR Certification required.
