Our Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPCU) is a 32 bed adult inpatient surgical unit. There is combination of telemetry and intermediate levels of care. NP care for a full spectrum of acute cardiac surgical patients requiring cardiac monitoring. The primary patient population includes adult pre or post-surgical: CABG, mechanical circulatory support devices (Heartmate III© & Heartware©), valve replacements, aortic dissection, TAVR, heart and lung transplants.


  1. Active RN license in the State of Maryland.
  2. Minimum of 3 years of acute inpatient RN work experience is required. (Cardiac experience preferred)
  3. Completion of a Masters or Doctorate Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program is required.
  4. Completion of an Acute Care NP program and certification with the Maryland Board of Nursing is also required.
  5. Active BLS CPR Certification is required. AHA, Red Cross, or the Military Training Network is accepted

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team and is responsible for providing comprehensive and age appropriate care to both well and / or ill patients under the direct supervision of a Nurse Practitioner or physician. The NP educates patients and/or intervenes in acute or chronic illness. The Nurse Practitioner practices within the guidelines of the unit, department, and institution and in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner-Physician Written Agreement required and approved by the State of Maryland. The Practitioner functions as a Nurse Practitioner Associate until affiliate staff privileges are granted by The Johns Hopkins Hospital Medical Board.
