COVID Ambulatory Physician Opening for Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, ED providers

We are recruiting for temporary contractual Physicians to staff COVID-19 ambulatory care services with the Johns Hopkins team at the Baltimore Convention Center Field Hospital (BCCFH) COVID Task Force.

The BCCFH COVID Task Force is a partnership between the Maryland Department of Health, Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) and University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). Providers are recruited and credentialled through JHM.

The BCCFH was set up initially as an inpatient service located in the Baltimore Convention Center. While we are no longer in the convention center and the inpatient service has been decommissioned, we provide ambulatory services at our sites in Baltimore. We offer COVID-19 testing and treatment at our walk-in Test-to-Treat program at State Center; infusion therapy, including monoclonal antibodies and remdesivir, at our site on the UMMS main campus; and telehealth services to treat high-risk patients with non-severe COVID-19 infections. We also provide COVID-19 vaccinations at our State Center location.

We have an immediate need to staff our ambulatory services in order to address the ongoing pandemic and meet the increasing demand for care. We anticipate being operational until April 2023.

Clinical duties will include, but not limited to;

  1. Telehealth service: Evaluation of non-severe high-risk COVID patients with the goal to prescribe oral therapeutics or refer for infusion treatment when appropriate
  2. Test-to-treat service: On-site evaluation and dispensation of oral therapeutics for eligible patients tested at our testing site
  3. Monitoring patients receiving IV therapeutics or vaccine

The vast majority of the needs are related to Telehealth and Test-to treat services. As the pandemic and our response to it evolves, additional clinical services may arise. Training, guidelines, and real time support is available to help evaluation and therapeutic decisions.

Pay rate: $150/hour

Day time clinical shifts of varying length are available. Typical shifts are 8am-4pm but some may start earlier or later or be shorter in length. A few weekend and evening shifts may be available. Number of shifts available will increase during COVID surges. Telehealth program operates both onsite and remote.

Individuals able to work multiple days a week for extended period of time are especially encouraged to apply.

REQUIRED Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited medical school in which an MD or DO or a foreign equivalent degree was earned
  • Internal Medicine, Med/Peds, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine residency trained experienced physicians; Infectious disease and pulmonary specialists are welcome
  • Ambulatory experience preferred
  • Active, current, and unrestricted Maryland State MD license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), up to date certification
  • Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Will need to be comfortable with EMR and use of technologies for providing telehealth (we use EPIC)
  • Location of services may at times be in remote, austere or challenging environments
  • Must be able to perform duties in a stressful and high paced environment without physical limitations
  • Must have ability to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements to include potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities
