Respiratory Therapists at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center work in four core teams:
- Main Hospital-Acute Care Adults and Pediatrics, which includes five separate adult ICUs (medical, cardiac, surgical, neuro, burn); adult ED and Peds/Peds ED; member of code, rapid response and trauma teams
- Neonatal-NICU team
- Specialty Hospital-Vent Rehab team
- Pulmonary Rehab.
Our therapists: offer high quality care with an interdisciplinary team approach. Highlights include multidisciplinary rounds, jet ventilation and nitric oxide therapy in the NICU, ICU protocols, Peds Asthma protocol, undiluted bronchodilator continuous nebulizer therapy using vibrating mesh technology, ICU JHB-RBRS (respiratory bounce back risk score) assessments, State Asthma Camp involvement, and other community benefit activities throughout the year.

The Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing direct patient pulmonary care in the acute hospital and to other patients of the JHMBC in accordance with JCAHO, state, hospital and department standards. Core NICU Respiratory Team primarily works in NICU and Labor & Delivery. Also supports adult care /pediatric care / and ER. Responsibilities include but not limited to all general respiratory care and some advanced care, such as: ventilator management including high frequency ventilation, Nitric Oxide, SiPAP, Nitric Oxide therapy, 02 Therapy, Medication delivery, high-risk deliveries, with computerized documentation.
Full Time, Night Shift, 36 hours per week
7:00pm-7:30pm, weekend work required, on-call required

Respiratory - NICU
In order to work in Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU), a minimum of one (1) year critical care experience is required, three (3) years of critical care experience is preferred and level 3 or 4 NICU experience preferred. Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts from an AMA / COARC approved school of Respiratory Therapy. Excellent computer skills required. Adult critical care, Pediatric critical care and ED experience, in addition to NICU is strongly preferred
Associates degree in respiratory therapy or closely related field, Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy or closely related field preferred. Must be a graduate of an AMA approved school of Respiratory Therapy
Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is required. Must be licensed by the Maryland State Board of Physician Quality Assurance.
CPR BLS is required, ACLS strongly preferred. Must obtain and maintain certification by the NBRC as a Neonatal / Pediatric Specialist (NPS) within one (1) year of hire date and all certifications remain current during employment.
