Sibley Memorial Hospital, located in Washington, D.C., invites applications for a full-time inpatient hematology nurse. We are seeking candidates with experience in clinical oncology, as this position will work closely with Johns Hopkins Sibley Kimmel Cancer Center faculty (oncologist) and play a key role in the care of oncology patients.

The Hematology/Medical Oncology Nurse Malignancy is an RN with knowledge of the nursing process; social, behavioral, biological and physical science. The Hematology/Medical Oncology Nurse Malignancy is responsible for coordinating care for assigned patients on a shift to promote the achievement of clinical outcomes. Provides evidence-based patient care based on the nursing process, procedures, and protocols of Sibley Memorial Hospital. Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary health care team to optimize team performance. Participates and promotes quality clinical improvement on the unit by supporting departmental and hospital safety standards. Practices responsible and cost effective use of resources. Serves as a representative of the medical oncology/hematology unit and hospital environment as a clinical role model in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, physicians, colleagues, and other staff members.
The successful applicant must be willing to sit for Oncology Certification OCN within the first year of hire if currently not certified, and preferably with one year of Oncology or Medical Surgical experience. Applicants should demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in clinical care, education, or quality improvement. The candidate will have opportunities for leadership, mentorship, and scholarship, working with the dynamic nursing staff and leadership at Sibley Memorial Hospital. The candidate should demonstrate interest in the care of hematologic and solid tumor malignancies.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program for Registered Nurses.
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor degree with second degree in Nursing.
- Knowledge of caring for patients with Hematologic Malignancies (new grads welcomed however, nursing experience preferred). New grads must obtain the ONS chemotherapy/biotherapy certificate within 6 months of hire. Experienced Nurses must obtain the ONS chemotherapy/biotherapy certificate within 4 months of hire date.
- Oncology experience through professional practice or clinical practicum.
- Excellent IV skills and knowledge of central line access and maintenance.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred. Current Basic Life Support Certificate required.
- Busy infusion center experience preferred. Telemetry experience highly desired.
Full time (36 hr/wk)- Rotating shifts
