POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Manager/Director of Patient Safety & Quality, with latitude for independent initiative and judgement, the Quality Advisor (Safety) is responsible to assist leadership with the development and implementation of system-wide quality and safety programs, effective identification and resolution of patient safety issues, ensuring adherence to professional and regulatory standards and advancing the principles of high-reliability organizations. Provides leadership, support and guidance to quality improvement teams in identifying, planning, and executing safety and quality improvement and hospital wide initiatives. Works with Executive, Clinical and Medical Staff Leaders and Quality of Care Committees, establishing evidence-based quality measures and quality improvement activities to ensure work aligns with strategic goals. Serves as an expert resource and an educator to leadership, clinicians and front-line staff regarding regulatory standards, Science of Safety, application of concepts and tools to improve patient safety, and quality of care.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Partners with Executive, Administratrive, Nursing and Medical Staff leaders to identify priorities, set goals and clarify overall objectives to achieve success with patient safety and quality improvement initiatives
  2. Provides leadership to cross functional teams, to complete major improvement projects to meet patient safety needs, the health system’s mission and to assure that strategic initiatives are met
  3. Partners with Risk Management and Regulatory colleagues to promote patient safety, mitigating processes that contribute to preventable harm
  4. Promotes safe and effective care through communication of identified safety concerns with appropriate committees, councils, services, and key stakeholders for action/resolution
  5. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide guidance and education on quality improvement/patient safety science, theory, tools, and practices to clinical staff, safety coaches and project leaders so information is understood, simplified and able to be practiced by the learner
  6. Demonstrates clinical knowledge and analytical skills to abstract both qualitative and quantitative data from electronic health record, data warehouse, and other key sources to ensure compliance with regulatory and other clinical quality measures
  7. Converts data into useable information, providing appropriate analysis and detailed graphical displays so that processes or outcomes are understood and information is able to be used for decision making
  8. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, manage change, and facilitate transitions to accomplish needed goals

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in business, nursing or healthcare related field (or in process of obtaining Master's Degree) with a BSN in the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse
  • 5 years clinical experience in a pediatric acute-care setting desired
  • 5 years quality/safety experience.
  • Lean Certification, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, Project Management Professional (PMP) or other ASQ certification (or in the process of obtaining certification).
  • Knowledge of improvement science, patient safety, principles of High Reliability Organizations, and use of quality tools
  • Possess leadership, project management, facilitation, teaching, presentation prioritization and organizational skills
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in MS Office (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio and statistical software packages such as Minitab and SPSS).
