Position Summary:
The Senior Planning Manager will work principally with the Director of Strategic Initiatives to develop and maintain a System Integration framework that fosters a two-way communication channel between entity stakeholders with shared services leadership. This individual will do this by maintaining a web application, managing large enterprise-wise projects, facilitating meetings, and providing strategic thought partnership.
General Responsibilities:
This individual will also partner with the Strategic Planning team develop and drive a multi-year strategic planning model that promotes transparency and alignment across Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Utilize / recommend / develop innovative and effective project management tools and methodologies that are easy to understand and create greater project engagement among implementation leaders and respective teams.
Provide staff support in planning and organizing cross-functional units and cross-entity activities, as well as associated teams, work groups and/or committees. Work with a wide-array of functional unit administrators, department leads and senior executives to develop and implement projects.
Provide active advising on strategic opportunities, planning and alignment, and industry analysis to drive cross-functional execution
Serve as a partner in developing and stewarding the development of strategic initiatives.
Synthesize large amounts of business intelligence and feedback information (both written and oral) to create consistency in messaging, clear ‘next-step’ expectations, and follow-up action items inventory.
Serve as point of contact for maintaining web interface by updating status of System Initiatives by tracking progress and coordinating follow-up where outstanding updates may exist
Design and implement meaningful project plans to frame the development of large system initiatives. This includes but is not limited to: Developing timelines and Gantt charts; Discreetly identifying combination of tasks that help to achieve the larger initiative; Coordinating follow-ups where outstanding updates may exist; Taking notes at all meetings and circulating meaningful action items to guide next steps.
Facilitate large collaborative meetings by developing visual aids, agendas and assuring stakeholder awareness and preparedness.
Conduct special projects in support of planning efforts. Perform research, data analysis, and interviews as required. Prepare findings and presents to appropriate management groups.
Education:
Bachelor’s required. Master’s in Business, Health Administration or other relevant field is preferred.
Knowledge:
Advanced knowledge of project management, financial analysis and business/strategic planning in order to provide oversight of special projects and process redesign effort including the development of rigorous and financially sound plans and solutions in support of JHM planning efforts. Knowledge and experience related to project management and implementation of medium and large-scale strategic initiatives. Advanced level of expertise in spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, diagramming, and project management software is preferred. Knowledge of finance, operations, logistics, statistical and simulation modeling, administrative theory, process improvement and project management preferred.
- High level of oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required in order to interface with staff and senior management throughout the organization.

Skills:
High level of interpersonal and organizational skills are required to handle sensitive and confidential situations with poise, and the ability to interact with diverse groups of people within and outside of Johns Hopkins Medicine. Ability to effectively communicate with JHM leadership, clinicians and administrative staff to ensure services and interactions are culturally appropriate. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and faculty to ensure successful design, process deployment, implementation and benchmarking of planning initiatives. As a representative of JHM, presents a professional and polished image both with internal and external audiences.
Strong analytical ability to develop, with leadership, the framework, project structure, objectives, outcomes and metrics for required projects in support of strategic planning efforts.
Strong ability to partner with executive and faculty leadership to oversee the development and implementation of programs/projects. Serves as an intermediary, as required, between JHM leadership and JHM entities, external groups and contracted providers.
Ability to partner with internal resources to oversee the development and implementation of programs or tactics that result from planning related activities.
Highly skilled in project management, business and strategic planning and data management including the ability to organize and effectively manage diverse groups in order to produce required goals and objectives in described time frames.
Ability to work independently and meet aggressive time frames; manage multiple projects simultaneously; and prepare oral and/or written presentations to senior management physician leadership, and board of trustees. Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Access for analysis and presentation purposes.
Advanced level of expertise in spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, diagramming, and project management software is preferred. Experience with Smartsheet or similar technology is preferred. Knowledge of finance, operations, logistics, statistical and simulation modeling, process improvement and project management preferred.
Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.:
None required. Completion or certification of Project Management Professional (PMP), Six Sigma, Lean, or similar training preferred.
Work Experience:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience (combination education, management training and previous work experience) in: health care, operations, or consulting.
