The Surgical Oncology Specialty Nurse will assist in the peri-operative outpatient care of of patients with hepatopancreaticobiliary and gastrointestinal malignancies. The Specialty Nurse works with the Surgical Oncology advanced practice team. Looking for a candidate with careful listening, decision making, critical thinking, assessment, compassion and good clinical judgment skills. The candidate must be have the ability to make quick decisions, multi-task, excellent interpersonal skills, as well as possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
Specialty Nurse (RN) Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an Accredited School of Nursing required
- An active Maryland State or Compact RN license is required
- BLS CPR certification required: AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted
- Three years of recent RN experience is required
Specialty Nurse is responsible for:
Reviewing records of newly referred and ongoing Surgical Oncology Patient
Assessing the type and urgency of post operative issues and medical assistance needed over the phone
Linking patients to the appropriate treatment team (Surgical, Radiation, or Medical Oncology)
Assisting with management of recently discharged patients, including post-operative phone calls
Assisting with clinical needs of long term patients and disease management followed by the surgical team
