The Manager, Physician Coding Operations, is responsible for managing coding operations within professional billing to ensure accurate code assignment, regulatory compliance, and effective revenue cycle performance. Oversees assigned coding functions, which may include coding production, charge review and abstraction, coding quality, education, or denial management activities. Leads staff performance, operational workflows, and process improvement initiatives to support coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance with federal regulations, payer policies, and organizational standards. Collaborates with providers, revenue cycle teams, and operational leadership to resolve coding issues, improve documentation practices, and support organizational financial and operational goals.

Job Functions:

  • Provides leadership and oversight for assigned coding operations, ensuring accurate code assignment and compliance with federal regulations, payer policies, and organizational coding standards.
  • Manages staff performance and development, including hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective action as needed to maintain high standards of coding quality and productivity.
  • Oversees operational workflows and work assignments, monitoring productivity, work queue performance, and operational metrics to ensure timely completion of coding-related activities.
  • Monitors coding quality and compliance, utilizing audits, performance metrics, and operational feedback to identify trends, resolve discrepancies, and implement process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in health information management, medical coding, or a related field (Required)
  • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience or one year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
  • 7+ years of experience in medical coding operations (Required)
  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist – Physician), or equivalent nationally recognized coding certification required.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, professional billing coding guidelines, and healthcare revenue cycle processes.

Salary Range: Minimum 41.88/hour - Maximum 73.31/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
