The Senior Surgical Posting Secretary accurately posts, cancels, reschedules and coordinates all surgeries/procedures for all units covered by Surgical Posting. Prepares schedules and reports as required. Maintains good working relationships with physicians and assisting in maximizing optimal utilization of available posting time. Supervises, schedules and assists surgical posting secretary. Utilizes excellent interactional and telephone communication skills.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High School graduate required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year previous experience utilizing computer equipment.
  • Experience in a senior secretarial position desirable.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others to meet department goals and objectives.
  • Ability to understand and utilize basic office equipment, computer equipment and software effectively.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations, making decisions based on complex rules and regulations.
  • Ability to lift supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately posts all elective procedures for assigned units utilizing the Surgical Posting computer system and appropriate telephone techniques.
  • Obtains required patient data on each posted case for the Admitting Department in order to ensure insurance coverage and meet Medicare regulations.
  • Understands and effectively enforces posting regulations and scheduling restrictions to ensure an efficient and safe posting schedule.
  • Handles cancellations and reschedules to maximize utilization of posting time.
  • Ensures that schedules and reports are prepared, printed, copied and distributed as required and in a timely manner utilizing organizational and priority setting skills.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, quiet environment with appropriate supplies available at all times. Lifts supplies/equipment necessary for the functioning of the office.
  • Cares for posting and copying equipment properly, informing Director, Perioperative Services of any malfunctions or problems.
  • Maintains a manual back-up system of all posting to prevent loss of information.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Utilizes good communication skills and telephone manners to ensure a professional environment.
  • Complies with hospital and department policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Interacts with and treats patients, physicians, physicians’ office staff, visitors and fellow employees with respect and courtesy.
  • Participates in the selection, orientation and scheduling of staffing office personnel. Serves as resource for complex staffing issues.

Salary Range: Minimum 18.85/hour - Maximum 31.10/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
