Who you are:

As a Business Intelligence Developer for Johns Hopkins Health Plans, you will serve as a technical expert responsible for designing, developing, and supporting scalable business intelligence and analytics solutions built on the Databricks platform. You will partner with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to transform healthcare data into actionable insights through modern data analytics and visualization solutions.

You have the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions, develop efficient semantic models, and build interactive dashboards that enable data-driven decision making. You are a problem solver with a passion for modern cloud data technologies and continuous learning.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain business intelligence solutions using the Databricks Lakehouse Platform.
  • Build and optimize datasets, Delta tables, materialized views, and semantic models to support enterprise reporting and analytics.
  • Develop interactive dashboards, reports and apps within Databricks to support operational, clinical, and enterprise business decision-making
  • Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries and improve dashboard and solution performance.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into scalable, reliable, and evolving data and analytics solutions.
  • Partner with Data Engineering, Data Governance, and Analytics teams to identify and resolve complex data issues and ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Deliver customer data and analytics requests accurately and within established timelines while following development standards for code reviews, version control, testing, and deployment.
  • Participate in Agile practices and stay current with Databricks enhancements, AI-assisted analytics, and emerging cloud data technologies.

What you'll bring:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Requires minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in healthcare IT, analytics, software development or data management. Experience with Business intelligence development tools such as tableau and SAS and programming tools such as R, Python, and SQL.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4–8 years of experience developing business intelligence and analytics solutions, preferably within healthcare.

  • 3+ years of experience working with Databricks AI/BI Dashboards and AI-assisted analytics.

  • Expert-level SQL programming skills, including writing, optimizing, and performance-tuning complex queries.

  • Experience developing dashboards, reports, and semantic models using Databricks, Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI visualization tools.

  • Experience with Databricks SQL, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Lakehouse architecture.

  • Experience creating materialized views and optimizing analytics solutions for performance.

  • Experience with cloud data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, or AWS.

  • Experience with Python/PySpark for data transformation and automation.

  • Understanding of star schemas, semantic models, and business intelligence best practices.

  • Experience with source control tools such as Git or Azure DevOps.

  • Understanding of data governance, security, and data management principles.

  • Knowledge of healthcare payer operations, terminology, and data structures, including claims, membership, provider, clinical, and financial data.

  • Experience working within Agile development methodologies.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and adoption of modern analytics and AI technologies.

  • Databricks certification or other cloud platform certifications (Azure, AWS, or Snowflake) preferred.

Salary Range: Minimum /hour - Maximum /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
