POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. The CMA has duties and responsibilities related to patient care in the ASC . The CMA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician or registered nurse when performing patient care. The CMA reports to the ASC Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager, who is responsible for the administrative supervision and orientation of the CMA to the area’s policies and procedures. The CMA obtains vital signs, assists patient in preparation for examination/ procedure, records and documents in the medical record, ensures safe & efficient patient flow, administers medications and immunizations, and organizes the ASC environment to assure patient safety. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions at the highest level based on scope of practice. Location is the Green Spring Pavilion, Timonium, MD.

REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program or relevant medical assistant experience that lead to certification.
- Familiar with medical terminology and documenting in electronic health record.
- Successful completion of the CMA, AAMA, RMA, NCMA, NRCMA or NHA (CCMA), Medical Assistant Certification. Must maintain certification/ registration throughout employment.
- Valid CPR certification required upon hire and recertification required every two years.
- The CMA must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Requires successful interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, physicians and other health care team members in order to foster optimal quality of outpatient care.
