External Communications Specialist (Media Relations, Public Relations and Corporate Communications)

Summary

Responsible for creating and distributing content such as patient newsletters, social media updates, and press releases. Assists with monitoring, supports event logistics and community outreach, and ensures all communications adhere to guidelines. Performs administrative tasks, updates the organization's website, and provides support during crisis communications. Gathers feedback from patients and staff to improve communication strategies and assists with basic graphic design for educational materials. Mentors junior staff, handles relationships with external vendors, and assists in budget management.

**This position requires flexibility and availability to travel to Baltimore City for on-call assignments and media escort duties, occasionally on short notice.

Essential Functions

Develops and executes multi-tactical proactive and reactive media and communication strategies and plans.

Plans and executes communication campaigns, including setting objectives and measuring/analyzing outcomes.

Responds to media inquiries in an urgent/timely manner.

Participates in on-call rotation.

Provides appropriate on-site escorts for media crews in compliance with internal and legal regulations.

Contributes to internal communications programs for employees and physicians through the development of signs, posters, displays, newsletters, and other visual means.

Evaluates and adjusts the quantity of publications according to distribution needs.

Determines the appropriate printer or vendor for the job at hand and estimates, schedules, and coordinates production.

Analyzes communication metrics and prepares reports to assess communication efforts.

Ensures all communications adhere to the organization's guidelines.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field (Required)

Minimum 2 Years of Experience in corporate communications, public relations, news media, or a related field (Required)

Salary Range: $28.90/hour - $47.71/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
