The Manager, Risk Adjustment and Coding at Johns Hopkins Community Physicians is a dynamic leadership role responsible for strategic oversight of ambulatory risk adjustment, clinical documentation improvement (CDI), coding optimization, and complexity capture initiatives across ambulatory services in a large health system. The position leads a team of clinical documentation education specialists and coders, ensuring effective resource allocation, high-quality outcomes, and alignment with organizational goals.

The Manager requires strong technical, analytical, and leadership skills to identify documentation, and coding improvement opportunities; assess provider education needs; and lead the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the CCARES (Complexity Capture and Acuity Recognition) program. Working collaboratively with clinical, operational, compliance, quality, and revenue cycle leaders, this role drives accurate documentation, appropriate risk adjustment, and continuous improvement in ambulatory care delivery.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Currently certified in professional coding as demonstrated by either Certified Professional Coder (CPC from AAPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS from AHIMA). The candidate must have at least one advanced certification in compliance, documentation improvement, or risk adjustment, such as Certified Professional Compliance Officer (CPCO, AAPC), Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP, AHIMA), Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC, AAPC).
  • Work requires a minimum of 10 years progressive medical record coding and auditing experience to include providing consultation and training to providers.
  • At least four (4) years of management experience is required.
  • Demonstrated experience developing training and education programs to support provider documentation requirements is required.

Salary Range: Minimum 49.81/hour - Maximum 87.18/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
