Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is a distinguished 420-bed academic medical center and Level II trauma center with a long-standing commitment to caring for patients with complex medical and surgical needs. As home to the Johns Hopkins Burn Center, Bayview is the only adult burn center in Maryland verified by the American Burn Association.

Since opening in 1968, the Burn Center has provided specialized, comprehensive care to patients with burn injuries and complex wounds from Maryland and beyond. The multidisciplinary team treats injuries related to flames, chemicals, electricity, and scalds, as well as complicated skin infections and other wounds. Services span the continuum of care, including an inpatient Burn Unit, Outpatient Burn Wound Clinic, and Scar Revision Clinic.

Unit: 20 bed unit including 10 Burn ICU beds and 10 Burn wound beds and outpatient clinic.

Hours/Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Weekends and holidays as part of the team rotation.

Responsibilities

As a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner on the Johns Hopkins Burn Center team, you will provide comprehensive, inpatient and outpatient care to adult patients (ages 15 yrs and up) with acute burns, complex wounds, and related conditions. Working collaboratively with burn surgeons, physicians, nurses, therapists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, responsibilities include:

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, and monitor clinical progress.
  • Provide inpatient management of patients with acute burns, complex wounds, and related medical conditions.
  • Participate in daily rounds and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care.
  • Perform procedures and assist with bedside and operative interventions within the scope of practice and established privileges.
  • Manage wound care, including assessment, dressing changes, debridement, and ongoing evaluation of healing.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies and laboratory results and adjust treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician/team.
  • Provide patient and family education related to treatment plans, wound care, recovery, and discharge needs.
  • Coordinate transitions of care and collaborate with outpatient services to support continuity of care following hospitalization.
  • Participate in quality improvement, education, and clinical initiatives within the Burn Center.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with Johns Hopkins standards.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current Maryland NP or PA license
  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification or Physician Assistant certification preferred.
  • Inpatient clinical experience strongly preferred
  • Critical care, emergency medicine, surgery, or burn experience preferred, but not required
  • ABLS Certification is required. Candidates must be willing to obtain within 1 year of hire.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, multidisciplinary environment

Salary Range: Minimum 58.03/hour - Maximum 89.94/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
