The Comprehensive Transplant Center

The Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Transplant Center (CTC) delivers cutting-edge, collaborative, and compassionate care at every stage of the transplant journey — from evaluation and listing through living donation, transplant surgery, and lifelong post-transplant follow-up. Johns Hopkins established its first transplant program, kidney and pancreas, in 1968, followed by heart (1983), liver (1986), and lung (1994) — nearly six decades of transplant care that have made the CTC a national leader in transplant clinical care, research, and education, with world-renowned transplant specialists and clinician-scientists and particular strength in living donor and recipient care and novel procedures including robotic transplantation.

The CTC's organ-specific programs — kidney, pancreas, liver, lung, heart, and reconstructive (vascularized composite allograft) transplantation, together with dedicated pediatric kidney, liver, and heart transplant programs — performed 463 solid organ transplants in calendar year 2025 (225 kidney, 3 pancreas/SPK, 76 heart, 127 liver, and 35 lung) and operate under a shared clinical and administrative infrastructure spanning living donation, multidisciplinary clinical teams, nursing and advanced practice staffing, transplant informatics, financial stewardship, and quality and regulatory oversight.
