The Weinberg Surgical Intensive Care Unit (Weinberg 3A) is a 20-bed adult Surgical ICU. This unit has won the AACN Beacon Award and was recognized by the SCCM for the Family Centered Care Innovation Award. It is grounded in teamwork as well as Patient and Family Centered Care. The unit also accommodates a diverse patient population receiving various types of surgeries, including Surgical ENT, GI Surgery, Trauma, Ortho/Neuro Spine procedures and General Surgery.

Registered Nurse 2 – Weinberg Surgical Intensive Care Unit (Weinberg 3A) - This position is for the experienced RN that has achieved RN I competencies in an adult ICU.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing required.
  • BSN/MSN strongly preferred.
  • Graduated from an accredited nursing program.
  • Tuition reimbursement - BSN/MSN matriculation required within one-year of hire and completion of degree within five-years of hire.
  • Active Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) or Compact State Registered Nursing license is required.
  • CPR/BLS certification required. AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted.
  • Acute Registered Nursing work experience required.
  • The ideal candidate is proficient in Registered Nurse 1 competencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with an amazing team on the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
  • Join Unit-based committees.
  • Precept new grad nurses while they are working through their residency.
  • Interviews and observes patients to assess needs, and to assist in developing semi-complex patient care plans.
  • Administers medications and assists physicians in administering treatments and diagnostic tests.
  • Monitors intravenous therapeutic treatments.
  • Makes periodic patient rounds, takes vital signs, and evaluates patient care provided by LPN’s, technicians, nursing assistants, etc.
  • Maintains current, accurate and complete records of nursing observations and care.
  • Responds to patient inquiries, complaints, and routine service requests.
  • May explain and record discharge instructions to patients or their families in the absence of a higher-level nursing professional.
  • Attends in-service training and continuing education programs.
