Position Summary:

Responsible for functioning as a technical assistant and practice partner with the registered nurse. Performs delegated nursing functions that are moderately complex patient care duties and carries out plans formulated by licensed or certified professional staff. Responsible for performing routine unit assignments and paraprofessional patient care duties such as taking vital signs, performing electrocardiograms, observing monitors and identifying deviation from normal conditions

Education/Experience:

Work requires a high school level of educational development and six months of previous experience as a PCT, patient aide or geriatric nursing assistant or currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed basic technician training in nursing. Acute Float Pool Department requires a minimum of two years related work experience.

Licensure/Certification:

Requires certification by the Maryland Board of Nursing as a Certified Nursing Assistant or higher recognized nursing license. Annual certification in CPR is also required.

Knowledge/Skills:

Work requires the analytical skills to gather and interpret data in situation in which the information or problems are relatively routine.

Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matter, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain medical center policies and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or medical center employees. More sensitive situations may be referred to others as appropriate.
