The Cardiovascular Technologist II assists Interventionalist and team with diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, and demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all equipment components, including patient monitoring devices

Location: Johns Hopkins Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD is hiring for a Cardiovascular Technologist in the Cath Lab Department. 

Schedule:

  • 7-5:30p, M-F day off will vary. On call is required-8-9 shifts per month

Pay Rate: $80.00 per hour (Based on experience). 

Requirements

  • Assists with gathering needed supplies for cases. Selects appropriate instruments and supplies based on procedure.
  • Calibrates, operates, maintains, and troubleshoots a wide variety of equipment and instruments. Maintains all equipment competencies.
  • Effectively manage supply usage by anticipating supply needs during procedure and effectively maintains supplies within the Lab.
  • Consistently monitors hemodynamic status. Recognizes EKG and other physiologic data during procedure.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and research protocols, incorporating research findings into practice.
  • Accurately communicates lab and critical values to interventionalist and/or other appropriate team member.
  • Assists with transporting patient to cardiology unit; gathers correct equipment.
  • Is responsible for transport and recovery of monitor equipment.
  • Is responsible for transport and recovery of monitor equipment.
  • Works with key Interventionalists and Medical Director to align mutual goals and outcomes between physicians and Suburban Hospital in assuring successful implementation of comprehensive program.
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction and procedure manuals.
  • Requires ability to communicate via documentation, telephone, computer and directly.
  • Requires knowledge or specialized equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Patient-care areas; requires standing and/or walking for long periods; the noise level is usually moderate; work pace is generally steady with occasional hectic periods due to patient census, status or emergencies. Subject to shift rotation. Subject to exposure to blood-borne pathogens, latex, dust, fumes, odors, mists, gasses, biological, mechanical, electrical, chemical and other hazardous materials. Incumbent may be exposed to moving machinery. The incumbent is expected to adhere to the Hospital’s Drug and Smoke Free work environment and to adhere to OSHA mandates and precautionary measures.

Physical Demands 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, reach, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, balance and perform repetitive movements. The employee is required to lift, carry, push/pull heavy objects (i.e., monitors/ equipment). The employee must lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 300 pounds through assisted lifting. The employee uses hearing, speech, smell and tactile senses. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program Maryland licensed Radiologic Technologist or RCIS required and NASPE certification preferred.
  • Minimum of Five (5) years related experience in CV OR/Open Heart Surgery Environment.
  • At least 2 years as diagnostic technologist, to include at least six months in angiography procedures.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Electrophysiology procedures (EP) is a PLUS!
  • Previous experience within Cath Lab and skill with Pacemakers, peripheral preferred. Impella and IABP exp is also preferred. Assists Interventionalist and team with diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures; Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all equipment components, including patient monitoring devices.
