Founded in 1912, Johns Hopkins Children's Center offers one of the most comprehensive pediatric medical programs in the country, with more than 92,000 patient visits and nearly 9,000 admissions each year. Johns Hopkins Children Center is consistently ranked among the top children’s hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. It is Maryland’s largest children’s hospital and the only state-designated Trauma Service and Burn Unit for pediatric patients.
Care is provided in a state-of-the-art facility, the Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children’s Center building, which opened in 2012. Additional outpatient clinics are housed in the nearby David M. Rubenstein Child Health Building.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center (JHCC) is responsible for the strategic development and operations for pediatric inpatient services and the ambulatory pediatric network in the East Baltimore and National Capital region and clinical, academic and research administration for the Department of Pediatrics.
The CAO is responsible for maintaining relationships with all levels of administration within the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine staffed by the department’s physicians. He/she provides assistance, in the form of analysis, consultation and planning to the co-directors of JHCC and executive leadership team. The CAO will also work with the other Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) entities and care locations providing pediatric services to right-size organizational capacity, optimize financial performance and provide high quality care. The CAO is responsible for the non-faculty administrative staff in executing the department’s clinical, academic and research activities.
The general scope of responsibilities includes: strategic planning, financial management/analysis, budget development and execution, grants management, contract administration, compensation planning, personnel management and recruitment, utilization and productivity management, marketing, space management and general operations of the JHCC, Department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Network. Additionally, the CAO is responsible for the department’s Professional Fee Billing Office, the Access Call Center and the staff in the clinical areas managed by the department.
The position requires a firm understanding of national health care and research trends/impacts, policies and issues. The CAO is a key contact for external relationships including industry and government affairs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The CAO plays key leadership roles in the JHCC, Department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Network in the following areas:

  1. Strategic Program Planning
  2. Financial Management
  3. Operations and Practice Management
  4. Pediatric Network Administration

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or other related field required
• Master's degree in a related field may substitute for required experience, J.D., M.B.A., M.H.A., M.P.H. strongly preferred
Seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience, with 3-5 years of prior pediatric administrator experience in an academic medical center environment, is required.
• Experience with strategic planning, growth strategies and network and business development in healthcare
• Exceptional communication, leadership, relationship-building, mediation and negotiation skills
• Strong commitment to customer service and excellence
• A driver of change, able to manage conflict in an adaptive and agile manner
