POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs maintenance, repair, fabrication, installation and modification work on buildings/components, offices, corridors, etc.. This work is performed under general supervision using the tools and techniques of carpentry technology.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge of carpentry techniques, procedures, tools and materials.

Knowledge of the techniques, procedures, tools and materials to perform metal framing, drywall/flooring/ceiling applications, and lamination.

Knowledge of building elements and codes.

Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.

Applies carpentry and safety knowledge indicated herein.
Safely uses tools and equipment indicated herein.
Ability to solve problems and manage information indicated herein.

A. Budget Responsibility:

Requires proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on an high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/JHM staff.

Identifies and avoids hazards as indicated by warning labels, signage, lights and other warning devices.

Performs work within reasonable lengths of time as measured against trade, industry or engineered standards.

Requires 5 years related work experience, including 2 years experience in metal framing, drywalls and all types of floorings and ceiling applications.

The full-time equivalent spent in a state-approved program may count toward the 5-year work experience requirement.

All types of tools and equipment normally used in the carpentry trade, including specialized equipment such as planers, joiners, sanders, powered bench and hand tools (such as drills, grinders, compressed air), as well as non-powered hand tools.

Requisitions in-house stock items.

Suggests to supervisor those materials, which may need to be requisitioned from outside sources.

Amounts vary and are usually charged to departmental cost center, but may be subsequently allocated otherwise.

Effectively uses resources within control.

Makes decisions based on trade practices and supervisor direction as appropriate for the scope of this position.

Recommends and participates in departmental carpentry operations development, improvement, and implementation as it relates to current/anticipated workload.

Trains peer and lower level positions as directed by supervisor.
