POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs maintenance, installation and repair work on piped utility systems and fixtures and on the piping and connections of equipment. This work is performed under general supervision and using the tools and techniques of plumbing technology.

COMPETENCIES:

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Knowledge:

    Successful completion of a formal training in a state-approved Journeyman Plumbing program.

    Knowledge of plumbing techniques, codes, procedures and materials.

    Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.

  3. Skills:

    Applies plumbing and safety knowledge indicated herein.

    Safely uses tools and equipment indicated herein.

    Ability to solve problems and manage information indicated herein.

    Requires proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on an high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/JHM staff.

    Identifies and avoids hazards as indicated by warning labels, signage, lights and other warning devices.

DIMENSIONS:
A. Budget Responsibility:

Performs work within reasonable lengths of time as measured against trade, industry or engineered standards.

4 years relevant experience in plumbing tade

All types of tools and equipment normally used in the plumbing trade, including specialized equipment such as power augers and pipe threaders, powered bench and hand tools (such as drills, grinders, compressed air), as well as non-powered hand tools.

Requisitions inhouse stock items.

Requests non-stock items for purchase subject to supervisor approval.

Recommends purchase of tools, materials and supply stock to supervisor.

Amounts vary and are usually charged to departmental cost center, but may be subsequently allocated otherwise.

Effectively uses resources within control.

Makes decisions based on trade practices and supervisor direction as appropriate for the scope of this position.

Recommends and participates in departmental plumbing operations development, improvement, and implementation as it relates to current/anticipated workload.

Trains peer and lower level positions as directed by supervisor.

Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses and resolves routine plumbing equipment problems and component conditions.
