POSITION SUMMARY:

The Infection Control Epidemiologist (ICE) II assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Infection Prevention program within The Johns Hopkins Hospital and its affiliated areas to meet the institutions goals. The ICE II has the major task for implementing the Infection Prevention program in their area of responsibility. This employee continuously evaluates all policies, procedures, and practices relating to infection prevention
and control within the institution to ensure all evidence- based infection prevention practices are implemented to assure optimum protection for all patients, visitors, and staff. This includes conducting surveillance, providing education, leading performance improvement initiatives, and management of outbreaks and exposures. He/she must utilize knowledge of epidemiology, infectious diseases, modes of disease transmission, principles of infection control and prevention, performance improvement, and adult learning methods. He/she is accountable to the Senior ICEs, the Director of Operations, the Assistant Director, and the Hospital Epidemiologist for meeting these responsibilities.

Bachelor's degree required in a related field. Degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or a related discipline is preferred. Master’s degree in Public Health or a related discipline preferred.

Demonstrates knowledge of infection prevention and control, epidemiology, microbiology, clinical practice related to infection prevention, evidence-based infection prevention measures, healthcare– associated infections, cleaning, disinfection and sterilization, adult education, regulatory requirements, and performance improvement.

Interacts effectively with personnel in a wide range of hospital and university positions, implements infection control policies, teaches informally and formally in both small and large group, and leads unit- based and facility wide performance improvement efforts.

Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is required within 2 years of hire.

Requires a minimum of 2 years of related work experience. Related experience includes Infection Control, Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Health Education, or Public Health.

PREFER PREVIOUS HOSPITAL EXPERIENCE

Computer experience required. Microsoft Office Suite skills preferred.
