The Cell Therapy Laboratory Technologist III is responsible for the performance of highly technical and complex cellular and immunotherapeutic procedures. These include, but are not limited to cell separation, cryopreservation, quantification, and characterization of cellular products for transplant or other immunotherapeutic procedures for clinical use. Serves as a resource to coworkers and others in the field on aspects of cellular therapy procedures. This is a high level technical position within the Cell Therapy Laboratory (CTL).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of The Cell Therapy Laboratory Technologist III inlude:

  • A high level of knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures and instrumentation, especially those used for hematological assays and cell component processing.

  • Familiarity with cryopreservation techniques and specialized equipment.

  • Knowledge of immunotherapy and scientific principles.

  • The ability to adapt to rapidly changing patient schedules and interdepartmental issues.

  • The technical knowledge of a Hematopoietic Technical Specialist II.

  • The ability to use a wide variety of analytical techniques to use instrumentation, interpret results, and resolve complex technical problems.

  • Great attention to detail that is translated into clear and concise document preparation.
  • Adherence to practices for good aseptic technique.
  • The interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with other staff, health care staff, visitors and physicians.
  • Ability to recognize deficiencies in procedures which can only come from specialized experience in this field.
  • Individual initiative and dedication to complete projects autonomously.

Shift:

Full Time (40 hours)

Hours: TBD

Weekends: Only as an On-Call (rare)

Education:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or other biological science.

Licensure/Certification:

ASCP certification preferred

Required Work Experience:

Requires 5 years previous laboratory experience with progressively increasing responsibility in a clinical laboratory setting and a minimum of 1 year experience in a cell therapy laboratory. Specific experience in Cell Processing and cryopreservation is needed as this position builds upon the basic skills used and acquired in these areas.
