Summary:
As a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP), you're trained across various departments including Inpatient and ER, Pulmonary Rehab/Diagnostics, and EEG/NCV. Working under medical direction, you set and achieve therapeutic goals for patients with cardiopulmonary or neurological issues. This involves formulating care plans, collecting data, conducting assessments and tests, providing interventions, and collaborating with the healthcare team.

In Pulmonary Diagnostics, you operate equipment for pulmonary function tests, analyze arterial blood gases, and prepare reports for physician interpretation. In Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, you develop and implement exercise programs for patients to restore function and prevent disability, following guidelines from professional organizations.

In EEG, you perform procedures to diagnose nervous system disorders, utilizing electroencephalography to measure brain activity and interpret results accurately. You may innovate work procedures, collaborating internally and externally for information exchange.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care Practitioner program.
  • Associates degree required; BS/BA degree is desirable.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current active license from the State of Maryland Physician Board Quality Assurance (MPBQA). Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Current CPR CERTIFICATION.
  • Definitions of the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) are as follows
  • RR-Registered Respiratory Therapist (Advanced Practitioner) required effective 3/1/2020
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six months of hire.Pediatric advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred
  • Must pass hospital Arrhythmia test within three months.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Must be able to understand medical terminology, medical anatomy and physiology and toeffectively convey this information in written and verbal format to others.
  • Strong understanding of pulmonary anatomy and physiology relative to the tests performed.
  • Should be mechanically inclined with good manual dexterity for equipment troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
