Shift:
Full Time (40 hours)
Day Shift; 8:00am - 4:30pm
Non-Exempt; Pay Grade: NG
Position Summary:
Serve as a team leader and mentor for junior staff members. Identifies, analyzes and develops solutions to improve team related issues. Coordinate complex financial workup for consultations, ancillary and other related services per clinical scheduling protocols Oversees the preregistration process to completion which will include insurance verification, referral/authorization, precertification (when applicable), financial work-up, financial collection, informing patient of all financial liabilities and inputting documentation into appropriate computer systems for inpatient and outpatient services. Serves as a resource for patients and physicians to contact regarding financial inquiries within JHMI. Serves as patient advocate to ensure patients have access to the appropriate clinical services. Provide patients with educational material and physician information. Also provide directions to other affiliates and clinical locations when necessary. May be asked to perform scheduling functions when required. . Maintains financial records according to departmental protocol.
Education:
A.A. degree required (or 3 - 4 years equivalent work related experience may be substituted); B.A. degree preferred.
Work Experience:
Three (3) years related medical office, hospital, medical call center or similar customer service environment. Extensive medical insurance processing; medical billing experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
EPIC certification required within 90 days.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Comprehensive medical and insurance terminology; comprehensive knowledge of hospital and physician referral protocols; comprehensive knowledge of medical insurance plans, billing and regulations, especially managed care plans; PC word processing; PC spreadsheet applications; familiar with regulatory agencies (HSCRC, HCFA, etc.) and their impact on health service financing.
- Keyboard – Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. Requires excellent verbal communication, telephone manner, interviewing and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, members of the health care team and external agencies. Requires analytical skills to resolve problems associated with appointment scheduling and scheduling protocols and to provide patients and referring physicians with information and assistance in scheduling. Requires analytical ability to perform calculations for financial work up and deductibles.
