Summary

Performs inspection, maintenance and repair work on building systems and components. This work is performed under general supervision using the tools and techniques of various technologies, including electrical, carpentry, mechanical and plumbing.

II. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Troubleshoots zoned areas within the hospital complex;

  2. First responder to triage repairs of damaged or deficient systems and including work such as:

  3. Performs a wide range of general maintenance tasks relating to carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical trades. Examples include tasks such as replacing ceiling tiles and repairing, adjusting doors and closers;checking and tightening hand and guardrails; repairing cubicle/window curtain tracks; installing toilet paper and paper towel dispensers; repairing and installing plumbing fixtures and components like flushometers, supply lines, stems, traps, handles, etc.; unclogging drain lines, removing, replacing, rebuilding medical gas poppets.

  4. Coordinates with,superintendents from trade shops for work beyond the scope of the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic (in nature and duration).

  5. First Responder to diagnoses routine maintenance problems and conditions; suggests and implementssolutions; requests assistance from superintendent as necessary.

  6. Cleans and cares for shop and Hospital tools and work areas throughout the Hospital. Pertains to own jobs as well as jobs of other staff, as directed.

III.

  1. Lends maintenance assistance to other trades as necessary.

  2. When necessary, assists in Facilities emergencies as requested.

  3. Assists with snow removal and ice melt application.

  4. Records findings and tasks performed.

  5. Maintains daily timesheet.

  6. Communicates status of assigned work to customer and to supervisor.

  7. Effectively and responsibly uses materials.

  8. As directed, maintains systems with respect to useful life.

  9. Uses relevant references to ensure the successful completion of tasks.

  10. Recommends improvement opportunities.

  11. Procures materials necessary to complete assigned job.

  12. Treats customers with courtesy, respect and caring behaviors.

  13. Responds quickly and appropriately to customer requests.

  14. Anticipates customer needs and initiates action to meet those needs.

  15. Presents a positive image of Johns Hopkins through professional appearance and behavior.

  16. Identifies own areas of development and seeks opportunities for personal and professional growth.

23. Carries out responsibilities in a timely manner and requests assistance when needed. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

High school diploma required; training in multiple trades programs at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.

5 years related work experience in a multi-complex maintenance environment; the full-time equivalent spent in trades programs may count toward the 5-year work experience requirement.
