Position Summary:

Responsible for the supervision and operation of internal and external security personnel assigned to the JHMI campus. Gives direction, training and guidance to Protective Service Officers who patrol externally via foot, mobile unit and bicycle, or Communications Protective Services personnel, or security officers as assigned.

Education:

Requires a professional level of knowledge in security functions as would normally be acquired by significant experience in a law enforcement, military or security operation preferably with completion of an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or related field. High School degree or equivalent is required.

Work Experience:

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must be able to meet the necessary requirements in the Offer of Employment letter. These include:
a) acceptable background history; b) successful completion of the health screening examination given by the Office of Occupational Health and Safety c) *the continual ability to pass random drug testing; and
d) successfully meet the Hospital's physical standards.
e) *Must be able to meet all criteria necessary to obtain and maintain a MD State Police security clearance.
*Failure to continually comply to these standards shall result in termination of employment.
Work requires experience with handling emergency situations, writing routine security reports and using security equipment. The candidate must have 2-3 years of security/patrol officer experience, to include one (1) year of security experience in the Protective Services Officer program at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions or be a law enforcement officer who has graduated from an accredited law enforcement training academy and has 2 years of security/patrol experience. One year of supervisory experience in a security environment is required.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Requires knowledge of the basic principles of supervision. Past supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills necessary in order to provide direction and guidance to security officers as well as to deal effectively with employees and visitors.
  • Requires ability to use Corporate Security Services self defense equipment.
  • Work requires the ability to properly and professionally handle stressful and hostile situations.
