POSITION SUMMARY:
The Infection Control Epidemiologist (ICE) II assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Infection Prevention program within The Johns Hopkins Ambulatory Surgery Centers and Ambulatory Clinics to meet the institutions goals. This employee evaluates policies, procedures, and practices relating to infection prevention and control to ensure all evidence- based infection prevention practices are implemented to assure optimum protection for all patients, visitors, and staff. This includes conducting surveillance, providing education, assisting with performance improvement initiatives, and management of outbreaks and exposures. He/she must utilize knowledge of epidemiology, infectious diseases, modes of disease transmission, principles of infection control and prevention, performance improvement, and adult learning methods.

Hybrid, visit the ambulatory sites 2-4 days a week and from home the other days compiling reports, performing HAI surveillance and participating in various ambulatory meetings.

Education:
Bachelor's degree required in a related field. Degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or a related discipline is preferred. Master’s degree in Public Health or a related discipline preferred.

Work Experience:
Requires a minimum of 2 years of related work experience. Related experience includes Infection Control, Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Health Education, or Public Health.


Knowledge:
Demonstrates knowledge of infection prevention and control, epidemiology, microbiology, clinical practice related to infection prevention, evidence-based infection prevention measures, healthcare–associated infections, cleaning, disinfection and sterilization, adult education, regulatory requirements, and performance improvement.
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is required within 2 years of hire.
