Position is on site 5 days a week, Monday-Friday, standard day hours.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Conducts surveillance of infection for areas outlined in the annual Infection Surveillance Plan approved by the Hospital Infection Control and Prevention Committee, under the direction of the Epidemiology & Infection Prevention Program Director, Johns Hopkins Health System. Provides Infection Control surveillance for the main hospital, Renaissance Skilled Nursing Facility and all the buildings that are part of Sibley Memorial Hospital. Works in conjunction with the Vice President for Patient Safety, Quality & Medical Affairs and Director, Quality Coordination to assist in regulatory compliance activities. Monitors compliance of hospital infection control policies, procedures and practices. Provides education and coordinates quality improvement activities. Collects infection control data for participation in Hospital sponsored programs and collaborative projects and enters data in NHSN.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accurately identifies and records information on patients/residents with infections, utilizing laboratory reports and other sources. Determines healthcare acquired infections by utilizing hospital-approved criteria. Enters information into computer database for comparative analysis.

Effectively establishes, coordinates and monitors infection prevention/control programs for Renaissance Skilled Nursing Unit and hospital.

Performs weekly environmental rounds to assure compliance of infection control policies and procedures.

Provides infection control education programs to hospital and medical staff.

Work experience in health care, public health, epidemiology, or microbiology- 2 years

Bachelor's degree required. Degree in nursing, microbiology, epidemiology, public health or related field preferred.

Johns Hopkins Health System requires all employees be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.
